Above: Select the required shipbuilder by using initial letter of the surname eg: Armstrong, Parson or Readhead.

Shipbuilder: Edward Lindsay, St Lawrence (1867 - 1878)

Shipbuilder: George Lindsay & Co, Mushroom (1881 - 1882)

Shipbuilder: Edward Lindsay, Bill Quay (1889 - 1889)

Edward Lindsay built ships at St Lawrence, Newcastle, near the Mushroom Landing.
He had a gridiron and patent slips, as well as the capacity to build in wood or iron. In 1879 he is listed as a 'Barge and Boatbuilder'. However the 1891 Lloyds Register Appendix says 'no longer a shipbuilder'.
George Lindsay & Co appeared to take over the business between 1881 and 1882.
Later users of the site were probably the Browns and then the Anderson & Partner firms until about 1894. By the turn of the century shipbuilding had ceased there and the site today is under the City Quayside extensions, near the Spillers Mill.
Above is an extract from Tyne Shipyard Biographies, copyright of Ron French.

The above map is dated 1859 and is approximately 0.6 miles in width.
