Shipbuilder: Thomas Young & Son, North Shields (1819 - 1865)

The above photo shows the Shields Engineering and Dry Dock Co Ltd site in about 1914. Shields Engineering had taken over the nearby Young's Dock, popularly known as the Haddock Shop in 1904. The dock can clearly be seen on the left of the photo. The Young family had operated the dock for most of the previous century and have been credited with having built the last wooden sailing ship in North Shields in 1865. She was the barque HOME.
