Comments: Laid down as WAR ROEBUCK, a Type B standard ship, for the Shipping Controller
16/02/1941: Torpedoed & sunk by U-Boat U101, 300 miles SW of Galway Bay
On a voyage from Calcutta to London with a cargo of silver ingots, pig iron & tea
The silver was worth £150m at 2011 prices, but wreck is at a depth of 15,400ft
2012: Wreck located and 48 tons of silver recovered with 192 tons remaining
