Some 200,000 Spanish troops were sent to Cuba
07/07/1898: She tried to run the gauntlet of a USA naval blockade around Cuba
She was pursued and in her attempt to gain entry into Port Mariel, she ran aground.
She was subsequently shelled by the American forces and destroyed.
