Shipbuilder: Thomas Wrangham, Newcastle (1669 - 1689)

Thomas Wrangham (1627 - 1689) is remembered on a mable plaque in Newcastle's All Saints' Church, where it states he built 45 sailing ships. He probably started building in his own right in 1669 when he enrolled his first apprentice, his son, Thomas Wrangham Jnr. In that same year it is thought that he built the Glass House bridge over the Ouseburn. He died of a fever at the age of 42. His two sons Thomas and William were also shipwrights and also their sons after them. If they all built at the same yard then it may have lasted more than 90 years.
