Comments: Designed to lift 12000tons
The base was made up of 6 x pontoons each 1039nrt, 74.2 x 117.0 x 13.6ft
1897: Order placed by the Spanish Government, but progress was delayed by the
Spanish-American War. Was intended for use at Olongapo in the Philippines but finally
installed instead at Port Mahon on the island of Minorca after the defeat by America.
16/07/1901: Arrived at Port Mahon, Minorca
Yard number 49 was initially used for the dock sides but work then stopped
Yard number 63 was used when work re-started on the pontoons.
1912: Unconfirmed reports suggest that some or all of the dock was sold to the
Government of Austro-Hungary for use at Trieste
