Cammell Laird (Tyneside) Ltd, Hebburn (1998 - 2001)



On the 20th of August 1998 Cammell Laird Ltd of Liverpool announced that they had purchased Tyne Tees Dockyard Ltd, with a view to continuing the successful ship repair and conversion business and also returning the Hebburn complex to shipbuilding.

The above photo dates from late 1999 and shows the hospital ship AFRICA MERCY on East Quay being converted from the Danish ferry DRONNING INGRID. The two ships in the dock together were KRAKA and LODBROG being converted from Ro-Ro cargo ships to the cable ships WAVE VENTURE and WAVE MERCURY for Global Marine.
