Comments: Member of the Alvand class of Iranian frigates
One of a four ship order for Vosper Thornycroft, two were subcontracted to Vickers Ltd
One, hull only, was built at Walker and then outfitted at Barrow
Overall design was based on a Vosper Mark V class
1985: Renamed as a result of the Islamic revolution of 1979
18/04/1988: Badly damaged by a bomb from US carrier aircraft
This was as a retaliation for Iranian mine damage to US warship
Subsequently repaired and returned to service
